The individualized programs focus on pain education, specific injury rehabilitation, core strengthening and stretching.
Pain education provides strategies to help the person cope with their pain during their recovery. Pain is common when starting a new recovery program and is not a sign of ongoing injury. Understanding the nature of your pain and why you have pain is used to guide you in the exercise program to make progressive gains and minimize setbacks that can delay recovery.
Stretching your muscles helps prevent muscle tightness that can occur as the body’s reaction to new activities. A stretching program can help restore your bodies pre-injury range of movements to improve pain and flexibility. Restoring range of movement can help prevent re-injury.
Core stability is an important starting point for most exercise programs. Strengthening your core abdominal muscles and deep back muscles correctly will help protect your body and improve your posture both during exercise and during normal daily activities.
Specific injury rehabilitation is a progressive strengthening program which is important to retrain muscles that generally become weak following an injury due to pain and inactivity. A program will be designed to meet your individual goals and needs. You will learn proper techniques for exercise, proper ergonomics for work or play and proper progression of activity to restore normal function.
The treatment programs utilize pool therapy, low impact cardiovascular exercises, ball therapy and a number of other techniques to suit an individuals needs. The biomechanical programs incorporate physiotherapy, chiropractic treatment, massage therapy and kinesiology in a twelve week program. This is performed in conjunction with professional support services that focus on the emotional and psychological factors that can be a barrier to recovery.
