Who cannot have an mri

Any part of the body can be imaged in our MRI scanner however there are certain situations when an MRI cannot be performed.

Patients with any of the following metal implants:

  • Cardiac pacemaker
  • External pacer wires
  • Cochlear implants
  • Implanted hearing aids
  • Some aneurysm clips

People who may have been exposed to metal fragments in their eyes such as welders, sheet metal workers, etc. require an x-ray to verify eligibility for an MRI.

Reasons why an MRI cannot be done at our clinic include:

  • Patient weight exceeding 226 kilograms (500 pounds)
  • Some children who require sedation. This will be determined on an individual basis. Please call for details.
